Keeping Current: Why Officer Election Reports matter
As a DAV leader, you know that keeping the promise to veterans involves a lot of vigilance on many levels. Our strength depends on organized, accountable leadership throughout our ranks. A key part of that is submitting Officer Election Reports (OERs) on time, ensuring our records accurately reflect who’s serving across our organization’s departments and chapters and communicating who our key leaders are in your community.
As new officers are elected and installed, submitting an OER within the required 10-day window keeps National Headquarters aligned with current leadership, allowing for clear communication, accurate reporting and uninterrupted support for members and veterans. Delays may result in new officers not being able to access important information and tools they need to carry out the mission.
Leaders now submit these reports through mydav.org. By using the Membership CRM platform, departments and chapters can complete and submit reports more efficiently while avoiding the delays and inconsistencies that came with paper or email submissions. It also allows for real-time leadership updates across the organization.
It’s important to use the correct tools. Older versions and alternate submission methods are no longer accepted. The updated OER Kit is available to help track and verify election results, but it’s only a reference—official submissions must be completed online.
For those unfamiliar with the system, support is available. The OER User Guide provides step-by-step direction, and departments remain a resource for questions or assistance. We’ve found it beneficial to take a few minutes to ensure accuracy before submission, that way, we can try and prevent delays or rejected reports.
OERs may seem procedural, but they play a direct role in keeping DAV connected and operating smoothly. When reports are submitted on time and completed correctly, it strengthens coordination across the organization and helps maintain the structure needed to effectively serve veterans and their families.
