Lifelong coverage for children
The USAA Life Insurance Company, already trusted by military families seeking first-rate life insurance policies, has proudly shared a new portfolio product that grows alongside the children it covers.
The Secure Start Whole Life Policy For Children’s Lifelong Coverage was announced by the company in July. It was created, the company said, as a means of providing proactive financial planning.
“It’s not the first time we’ve offered life insurance solutions for children,” said Rob Arena, president. “Our term life products offer a child rider that provides low-cost coverage as part of a parent’s policy, and our previous Simplified Whole Life product could be purchased for a child, though it was designed primarily with adult policyholders in mind.”
Secure Start, however, is a new dedicated juvenile whole life offering from USAA. It provides a simple and streamlined digital application process with just a few questions and no medical underwriting. It reflects, Arena added, the organization’s ongoing commitment to meeting member needs with solutions that are simple, accessible and aligned to long-term financial security goals.
USAA’s commitment goes beyond any one generation, Arena explained, pointing out that veterans understand the importance of looking ahead.
“Military families often take a long-term view of planning,” he said. “They understand the importance of preparing for the future and creating stability for their loved ones. Secure Start Whole Life supports that mindset by helping families protect a child’s future insurability while providing lifelong coverage.”
Arena shared that one of the most common misconceptions about life insurance products is that they can only replace the income of someone who has passed away. Some benefits, however, provide other financial support in the tragic event of anyone’s passing — and should be part of any comprehensive plan, he explained.
“When viewed through a long-term lens, many families see this type of policy as part of the legacy they’re creating,” Arena said. “It’s one way to help provide future protection, opportunity and financial flexibility that can benefit a child well into adulthood.”
Secure Start coverage can begin anytime from the ages of just 15 days to 17 years, and protection options range from $25,000 to $100,000. Key features include guaranteed future insurability, lifelong financial value, flexible premium options, and a simple application process.
“Planning for the future often means thinking not only about [policy holders’] own financial security, but also about the opportunities [they’ll] create for the next generation,” Arena said. “Preserving a child’s ability to access life insurance coverage in the future can provide peace of mind as that child grows, reaches important milestones, and eventually builds a family of their own.”
Founded in 1922, USAA is one of the country’s leading providers of insurance, banking and retirement solutions, serving more than 14.5 million members of the U.S. military, veterans who have honorably served, and their families. For those reasons, legacy is something that it doesn’t take lightly.
“Legacy is about more than assets,” Arena proudly pointed out. “It’s about passing down stability, resilience and a stronger financial future. Secure Start supports that goal by providing a foundation of financial protection that can benefit a child well into adulthood while also solidifying their USAA membership. In that way, families are passing along not only financial protection, but a trusted relationship that can support the next generation through every stage of life.”
