Leading from the Front

𝕏 in f WA

Joining DAV is only the beginning. Every member has the opportunity to continue serving by leading, mentoring and strengthening the organization that has fought for veterans and the benefits they have earned for more than a century.

One of the most meaningful ways to make an impact is by becoming a chapter or department officer. Strong leaders keep chapters active, welcome new members, support local outreach efforts and ensure veterans know where to turn when they need help. By stepping into a leadership role, you directly help shape the future of DAV while continuing your own legacy of service.

Leadership doesn’t stop at the chapter meeting.

Every year, DAV members represent the organization and their chapter/department through DAV Community Impact Day, Golden Corral Military Appreciation Nights, entrepreneur programs, job fairs, benefits expos, community festivals and countless other outreach events. These opportunities allow us to meet veterans where they are, answer questions about the benefits they’ve earned and introduce them to the programs and services DAV provides.

The most successful recruitment happens through service.

When a veteran meets a service officer or a member at a job fair, receives assistance during Community Impact Day or learns about benefits at a local event, they see our mission in action. Those conversations build trust. Membership often becomes the natural next step because they’ve already experienced the value of what DAV does.

Every outreach event is an opportunity to change a life. Every conversation is an opportunity to connect another veteran with benefits, advocacy and a community that stands beside them. Recruiting isn’t about growing numbers for the sake of growth. It’s about ensuring more veterans have access to the support they’ve earned while strengthening DAV’s voice on their behalf.

Whether you’re considering becoming involved in your chapter, volunteering at an upcoming outreach event or simply taking the time to speak with another veteran, your involvement matters. Together, we can expand our membership by demonstrating our mission through action and ensuring no veteran has to navigate life after service alone.

Ready to take the next step? Contact your chapter leadership to learn about officer opportunities, volunteer at your next Community Impact Day or outreach event, and help introduce another veteran to DAV through the power of service.
