New ‘Ghost Soldier’ trailer is a special operator’s dream sequence

The filmmakers behind “Ghost Soldier” know exactly what kind of movie they’ve made—and they clearly had fun doing it.

The trailer reads like a well-executed parody of the expert-brought-back-from-retirement archetype, but instead of feeling trope-y, it feels like an invitation to enjoy the fireworks.

The official synopsis describes the film thusly:

“Jim Caviezel (“Person of Interest”, “Passion of the Christ”) stars as Henry “Fitz” Fitzgerald, a solitary man with a mysterious past, living a quiet life off the grid in his hometown. But when a powerful foreign corporation descends on his community determined to seize his and his neighbors’ land for a massive payday, Fitz takes action—he’s actually a former Special Forces soldier and advanced weapons developer.

Armed with weapons no one has ever seen, a lifetime of lethal military training, and an unwavering code of justice, Fitz becomes the one thing his enemies never anticipated: a one-man war they can’t win.”

And by “weapons no one has ever seen,” we’re literally talking “Harry Potter” sh*t—I’m pretty sure I spy with my little eye an invisibility cloak at minute 1:58. See for yourself:

First of all, this is credited as a debut screenplay from Chris Papasadero, so good on him.

Second of all, it’s directed by William Eubank, who also helmed “Land of Bad,” a Russell Crowe (“Gladiator”) and Liam Hemsworth (“Hunger Games”) film about Delta Force. By the looks of things, Eubank has no trouble creating adrenaline-fueled action sequences, clever fight scenes, and impressive technical execution on a relatively modest budget.

“Ghost Soldier” appears to be no different and Eubank is very likely a director you’re going to want to follow in the coming years.

Instead of falling back on cheesy or cheap solutions, the project doubles down with self-aware lines like, “You can thank God all you like. He ain’t the fella you’re about to meet!” and “Corporate tyranny is still tyranny.” Don’t tread on Fitz! Don’t you do it!

With hero moments like Fitz’s grandson saving Old Glory from a house fire or a sniper (probably also Fitz) popping up from an infinity pool to take out their bougie target, the film looks like the kind you want to go see with your buddies and enjoy their reactions.

The comment section of the trailer is already popping off with people clearly enjoying themselves:

I gotta tell you, I’ve loved Caviezel since “The Count of Monte Cristo” and “Frequency.” This is a man who has been through it as an actor. When filming “The Passion of the Christ,” he dislocated his shoulder, battled hypothermia, and suffered a lung infection and pneumonia, endured eight-hour makeup sessions that left him with severe headaches and skin infections.

Oh, and he was struck by lightning.

To be clear… that, uh, shouldn’t happen to actors or any crewmembers while making a film… but clearly the man is committed to his craft.

Caviezel is joined by Olivia Thirlby (“Oppenheimer”), Beau Knapp (“SEAL Team”), Garret Dillahunt (“No Country for Old Men”), Shea Whigham (“Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”), and Tetiana Dar (“Bosch: Legacy”).

“Ghost Soldier” will hit theaters Nov. 6, 2026.
