Sesame Street for Military Families celebrates two decades of support with new resources
Celebrating two decades of supporting military children and families, Sesame Street for Military Families (SS4MF) has announced the launch of new digital resources to support military families in health and readiness. Armed with research over the course of 20 years and even a military “listening tour” last year, SS4MF, a collaboration between Sesame Workshop and the Department of Defense’s Office of Military Community and Family Policy, provides free resources, videos and activities annually to help families navigate the unique challenges of military life: TDY assignments, PCS moves, deployments, wellness, grief and more.
“For 20 years, Sesame Street for Military Families has been a trusted source of support for military-connected families,” said Rocio Galarza, vice president of U.S. Educational Programs, Sesame Workshop.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we’re introducing new resources that make it easier for families to stay active, build healthy habits, and spend quality time together.”
Now available, SS4MF launched Move with Elmo—a digital game designed to encourage exercise and play for the whole family— as well as a Facilitator Guide and printable activities for family-support professionals that offer updated tools to help military families, updated website content with input from military-family advisors to accurately represent the needs of military families today, and a social media campaign that gives activity tips and highlights ways to encourage healthy eating and movement into a family’s daily routine.
“Whether it’s moving with Elmo, trying new family activities, or creating everyday routines, these tools help children grow stronger, healthier, and ready for whatever comes next,” said Galarza.
