World of Warships is always making content for naval history buffs but its America 250 update goes above and beyond. Those interested in game play will love the game’s new “Dawn of a Nation” narrative campaign, but there’s a lot for those who just love to blow up enemy vessels—especially while at the helm of America’s most iconic ships.

The game’s update boasts premium cruisers, special American destruction effects, legendary commanders, artwork, decals, and even a celebratory New York port, complete with fireworks. Lots of fireworks—especially when you destroy an enemy.

Even if you’ve never played World of Warships before, it’s remarkably easy to join the celebration. The game is a free to download, free to play, and it’s easy to start learning the art of naval warfare. The game’s June 15 update is something exceptional, however, especially for anyone who wants to celebrate American exceptionalism on the United States’ 250th birthday.

If all you want to do is sink enemy ships, World of Warshipshas you covered. But the game also has defined narrative that allows you to progress into bigger ships and more powerful weapons, as well as fun upgrades and ship art as the game goes on. World of Warships’ America 250 update offers myriad ways to celebrate the U.S. and U.S. Navy history.

The Dawn of a Nation Campaign

World of Warships’ new narrative is extensive and educational. It consists of four unique chapters that explore the history of America’s 13 colonies and their journey to independence. Every week, a new chapter will be unlocked, with each offering rewards to be used for in-game play.

Among those rewards are commanders are John Glover, a Continental Army commander whose schooner Hannah was used to raid British supply ships. The Hannah is considered the first ship of the Continental Navy. Glover’s men were also critical in evacuating Washington’s Army after the Battle of Brooklyn.

Of course, no celebration of America’s history on the high seas would be complete without John Paul Jones, who is also one of the rewards offered in the game’s Dawn of a Nation campaign. “The Father of the American Navy” took the fight for independence to British shores, famously raiding the Irish Sea as well as coastal towns on Britain’s mainland.

And you can have either of them in command as your ship hoists the Betsy Ross flag, which is also a reward for narrative gameplay.

World of Warships’ Warships

For those who come to play for the ships, the game’s America 250 celebration continues. It offers the premium cruiser USS Congress, and an incredible new camouflage for the for the Supership Maine, both of which come as rewards for the narrative campaign.

The 250 Years of Independence Event Pass, meanwhile offers users the chance to play as the battleship USS Arizona and special America 250 camouflage: “Freedom” permanent camouflage for Baltimore “Go Navy!” permanent camouflage for the USS Helena, “Old North State” permanent camouflage for the USS North Carolina, “Stars & Stripes” permanent camouflage.

This update also packs in custom ship decals for hulls, a stars, stripes, and fireworks-laden destruction celebration to enhance your destruction of the enemy, as well as some standard World of Warships game updates that include Italian submarines (actual subs, not sandwiches).

The updates is available now.
