The Defense Department has published new criteria for barracks and unaccompanied housing. For the first time, all military services must meet the same standards. The policy sets a "zero visible mold" standard and establishes minimum living space requirements for junior service members.

The new rules also address amenities and safety features. Barracks must have parking for 70% of troops and provide a certain ratio of washers and dryers to service members. Additionally, doors entering from corridors must have functional peep holes.

Further details on the new standards are available from the Defense Department. The policy aims to ensure consistency in living conditions across all military services.
