What Wyoming offers veterans on top of federal VA benefits — property tax relief, state income-tax treatment of retirement pay, and education programs. Compiled from official state sources.
Property tax exemption
Wyoming provides a $6,000 reduction in assessed value against real or personal property (applicable to a primary residence, or to motor vehicle registration fees) for qualifying veterans and unremarried surviving spouses. Eligibility requires three years of Wyoming residency plus wartime service (WWII, Korea, Vietnam), overseas service in an armed conflict with an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal or equivalent, or a compensable VA service-connected disability; claim annually through the county assessor.
Military retirement pay & state income tax
Wyoming has no state personal income tax, so military retirement pay is not taxed at the state level.
Education benefits
Wyoming pays tuition for eight semesters within an eight-year period at the University of Wyoming and Wyoming community colleges for overseas combat veterans (honorably discharged Wyoming residents awarded an expeditionary or qualifying campaign medal) and for their surviving spouses and dependents. Wyoming National Guard members are separately eligible for a 100% tuition-and-fees waiver at the same institutions under the state Educational Assistance Plan.
