Nevada Veteran Benefits (2026)

What Nevada offers veterans on top of federal VA benefits — property tax relief, state income-tax treatment of retirement pay, and education programs. Compiled from official state sources.

Property tax exemption

Nevada's disabled veteran's exemption (NRS 361.091) is available to honorably discharged resident veterans with a service-connected disability of 60% or more. It exempts a set dollar amount of assessed value, tiered by disability rating (60-79%, 80-99%, and 100%), with amounts adjusted annually. The exemption can be applied to property taxes or to the vehicle governmental services tax, through the county assessor.

Military retirement pay & state income tax

Nevada has no state income tax, so military retirement pay is not taxed at the state level.

Education benefits

The Nevada System of Higher Education fee waiver for Purple Heart recipients waives registration, laboratory, and other mandatory fees at NSHE institutions for veterans awarded the Purple Heart and their children (professional schools such as law, medicine, and dental are excluded).

Also worth knowing

Nevada law (NRS 361.090) also provides a separate annual exemption for eligible wartime-era veterans, in addition to the disabled veteran's exemption.
